Connex

Connex Telecommunications Inc. is an enterprise-level Solutions Integrator providing contact centre, cyber-security and unified communications technology and infrastructure to organizations in Government, Finance and Telecommunications. It is part of the Malar Group of companies, for which I also contributed my art direction and design experience and expertise.

At Connex, I was employed as a Content Specialist which included Creative Direction, Graphic Design, Web Design & Development, Copywriting & Content development, planning, and trade show support.

Here are some highlights of the work I produced there, First is the website that I built using the Webflow environment by customizing an existing template and the remaining examples were designed using Adobe Indesign, with support from Photoshop, and included stock imagery which I customized with Adobe Illustrator:

Connex Website (Webflow)

The Connex website was an interesting challenge, as I had never heard of Webflow prior to having it selected for the site. It’s a testament to my versatility and ability to pick up new technologies quickly, as the individual who chose the technology and template, had no understanding of the requirements for an enterprise web environment, and naively selected a template that would typically only be used by an agency to display their portfolio of projects.

They originally had employed someone through Upwork to perform the build-out, but it immediately became clear that they were not capable of executing the customization and structure needed for this design. I taught myself how to use the service, and effectively customized the structure of the site, including a multi-relational CMS database to create the dropdown menus, solution categories and pages, and related services. I also customized many of the images on this site, as well as contributed blog posts and writing a hefty chunk of the content on the site, while proofing and editing content created by my colleagues.

I also trained and mentored my colleagues in the use this web service while teaching them the fundamentals of web design and how html and CSS are used and incorporated into a wysiwyg editor such as Webflow’s interface, so they could better understand its functions and display capabilities.

Digital & Printed Sales Cards

I designed some simple sales cards based on branding that was in place when I started at Connex, and designed pieces that could be distributed digitally, and also be printed for Salespeople to hand deliver/mail to prospective clients. The image on the front of the card would display an image based on the locality of the salesperson. This particular example is Toronto, and others included Kitchener-Waterloo, Saint John NB, Hamilton, Montreal, Quebec City, and Calgary.
During my first year at Connex, new branding was determined, which meant redesigning the website (which I built out and customized using a dynamic CMS-based WebFlow environment) and social properties, to sales and marketing collateral. This is one of the updated sales cards, which also included reducing six solutions categories, down to only 4 for simplicity.

Brochures & E-Booklets

This is an e-booklet I designed for the Connex Cloud Office line of products and associated services. This e-book was designed for both EN and FR deliveries.
This is a Genesys Managed Services brochure I designed for the CA and US markets, outlining the services offered across three package types.
The sales team needed a document to easily communicate information for on-site tech support dispatch locations, packages and rates. This e-booklet is the result.

Trade Show Booth Design

Shown above is the design that was selected for producing a curved 8′ x 8′ trade show booth backdrop for Connex engagements. You can see the various mockups I designed in this document: The main “face” element was customized by me and included stock patterns that I customized in order to make the colour schemes on brand, a task that sometimes required detailed selections of many hundreds of elements.
